Indiegogo relies on “user democracy” – anybody can raise money for anything, and the power of the funders help dictate what catches fire and ends up on the website’s homepage.
San Francisco Fashion and Merchants Alliance (SFFAMA) and Indiegogo are proud to form the first crowd-funding partnership that is specifically designed for developing the growing fashion industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. Through this platform, we hope to provide our members the opportunity to raise the funding and build the community to help see their dreams become reality. SFFAMA is a California non-profit corporation and the leading social development network in support of the thriving local fashion industry in the San Francisco Bay Area. Please check out our amazing CAMPAIGNS and join in helping to build our partnership.
[San Francisco, CA, March 2012] In the beginning of March 2012, San Francisco shoe brand—deeFind— launched a campaign to raise funds intended for the manufacturing costs of their Spring/Summer 2012 line. After receiving the first order of their merchandise and discovering changes with both the manufacturing and their manufacturer, deeFind reinvented this season’s line and is now marketing toward a more focused, small run of concept shoes, available only at special trunk shows, by-appointment-only sessions and private wholesale events. The funding will now be allocated to deeFind’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection which is set to begin production sometime in November of this year.
Since the brand’s launch back in June 2011, the brand has blazed through the local San Francisco fashion scene causing boutiques owners, fashion bloggers, and devout followers to rubber neck over Dierdre Wallace’s ultrafeminine, infectiously-fierce shoe designs. In more recent news, deeFind was a featured designer in one of this year’s most important industry events in music, interactive technology, film and now fashion at South by Southwest’s (SXSW) fashion showcase Style X, where Wallace’s shoes blew off the shelves. This head nod to the brand’s bold style triggered an immediate head nod to deeFind’s hard work and high-toned designs, causing fashion bloggers, photographers, customers and buyers to swarm the booth for two days. Given that deeFind is such a young company, being recognized with as much buzz as they’ve received is both an immense honor for Dierdre Wallace and Creative Director Melina Jones, and a thrilling harbinger of things to come. With inventory still stocked from last season, the Fall / Winter collection is currently available on deeFind’s online store as well as Bay Area boutiques, such as The Hub in Marin County and San Francisco clothing gems Wonderland and Artillery.

ABOUT INDIEGOGO
“When our founders joined forces in 2007, they had diverse backgrounds and varied interests. However, they had one important thing in common: Danae, Eric and Slava each tried to raise money for something they were passionate about, but they came up short. They had great ideas, the passion to work hard, and good networks, yet access to funding through traditional channels proved limited. The trio was determined to find a solution to the problem. Indiegogo was born; the crowdfunding solution that empowers ideas and enables people to donate funds easily.”

Jonathan Niemuth (Founder). Jonathan Niemuth is a local San Francisco creative and entrepreneur. After graduating art school in industrial design, he immediately jumped into the construction business, but never lost his passion for design and apparel. In 2005, he made his first line of men’s jackets, successfully sourcing the fabric he wanted and finding local cut & sew shops to make his prototypes. His entrepreneurial spirit and passion for high-quality apparel lead him to collaborate with like-minded creatives and start Gorilla Workshop.
Sonas Denim was founded by Gerry, an Irish born festival enthusiast living in San Francisco since 2000. Gerry was born in Dublin, Ireland. After traveling to many different festivals and celebrations around the globe, he picked up the handy skill of fashioning his own handmade clothing for these festivities. The clothing ranged broadly, but his patched denim jeans became his signature piece and everybodys favorite! He custom made over 20 different versions of the patched jeans for his friends before the demand was so large that he needed to take them to the streets. This was the beginning of his unique free-spirited denim company.
When Sonas becomes a success, it will have more of an impact on helping animals and will be a great example to other business to not waste and to be more socially responsible. We want you to support our ideology on business. Gerry has always viewed the jeans as a source of happiness: Sonas. Its good times. Liberation! Confidence and individuality. Community and celebration. Its the feeling of exuberance, like the ecstatic high of being with all your best friends at once. We at Sonas thought we would share some of this spirit that has kept us living. We want to be that example that just because you are a company, doesn’t mean you have to forget to give. Help us succeed, so that we can help others succeed too.
All money received is going strait to production. We are paying the sewers, washers, cutters, the people who store our denim, the fit models, the pattern adjusters…and on and on. The more money we receive, the more jeans that we can put into production and have in stores for people to learn about and be inspired by. We wanted to be able to earn capital without handing over more ownership interest in our brand. It’s important for us to stay to true to our values which is why we want to hold onto as much of the company as we can.
